We are very happy to introduce a newly found Miami creative that is sure to hook you in with surprise. Meet Jose De Leon aka the squid, a Miami native now residing in Broward County just trying to get by. He just came out with an elaborate 11 song album rightfully titled Vertigo where you get a wide range of the squid’s eclectic personality. You can detect the certain influences he exhibits from growing up with love for more than 1 genre of music. From when he was in middle school listening to metal and rock like a lot of us were, he, of course, got into playing instruments and participating in underground bands for awhile. It gives a different sense of soul when music comes from someone who’s had a chance to learn and experience different elements of what really makes a good song as opposed to the latter. This gives him a one up in the music scene overall because what may be obstacles to others comes naturally for the squid. Nowadays, he benefits from the energy of remarkable artists like Denzel Curry, Earl Sweatshirt, Lil Uzi Vert, and Circa Survive. The first track off the bat “SOMERVILLE” drags you in with the beat and the squid just hooks you with his astounding word play.

As you trail through the album, he starts to slow down starting with “IDENTITY” but still keeping his fast eccentric flow. This seemed to tie into the kind of vibe that his first tape “Nicotine and Depression” back in 2018 held. It wasn’t the best time in his life, but nonetheless the spark was there. He kept building up and eventually achieved milestones of positivity and starting to really get on top of his sound. In My Dying Wish was the 2019 version of the squid chockful of heavy lyricism for the ears that can comprehend. But this album specifically seems to put the whole story together combining the good and the bad aspects of his view of himself, of others, of the world, and so on. “FLAGRANT” and “HOT FRIES” were hot favorites of Brain Bakery but each song was equally enjoyed. Squid comments that this is his most versatile project yet and we can’t help but agree. Please don’t miss out on this one, you are really gonna enjoy what the squid has to say for real. Stream it on your favorite platform now and give him a follow.
