That Feel Records is on track to usher in a new sound for Florida. This collective came together based solely on their love for Hip-Hop, and they have been releasing high quality and thought-provoking music ever since. The group was introduced to this world in the middle of 2021, In July, the single “Legal Enterprise” hit Bandcamp. The collaboration between two members, CA$$O and GRYFFYTH, set the tone for the newly formed label and they haven’t slowed down. Since their introduction to the game, That Feel Records has been consistently releasing soulful Hip-Hop tracks that bring an energy and feeling that we’ve all been missing.
That Feel was generous enough to educate the masses on their future goals, their collaborative nature, and what it’s like inside That Feel Studios.
Would you guys consider yourself a label or a collective?
We would consider ourselves a collective that’s building the independent label up as we move forward in the music industry.
How did That Feel come about?
That Feel came about from Gryffyth, Ant, the Producer, and Donny Marvo linking up, creating, and forming a brotherhood.
Where does the name stem from?
The music. The way you feel the music in your soul is something that was notable from the first batch of creations and truly, the way we began to be reflections of each other based off the brotherhood cemented everything.
Can you guys explain why Bandcamp is so important to independent artists like yourselves?
It’s very important for us to utilize platforms that make support as direct as possible. Bandcamp allows us to be the direct merchant for the music and takes a respectable cut compared to simply waiting for the millions of streams.
Producers, are you guys classic MPC or what are you using when making these beats?
Most of us use our computers, Ableton or FL Studio, keys, a drum pad, and live instrumentation. There’s also an APC40 MKII that’s been used in plenty of our production.
GRYFFYTH – Shout Out to NightSwimRadio for supplying that hardware, they showed loved
Who decides who is a member of That Feel and what is the criteria?
Really, since we initially linked up mid last year, we established who was affiliated with the gang from there. It’s GRYFFYTH, Donny Marvo, Ant, the Producer, Vader, Beloveddd, CA$$O, and Messiah.
What is the atmosphere like at That Feel Studio?
Donny Marvo – Atmosphere is cozy as a muhfucka
GRYFFYTH – Reminds me when RZA setup his basement studio while making Cuban Linx
We have the space set up to be comfortable for artists, producers, and engineers alike. Really, the vibe will also depend on who’s in the pilot seat.
After going through your bandcamp, a lot of the earlier releases are purely instrumental. Was that a choice or is that how it just panned out?
The beats are really the basis of the group. From Gryff’s Mind Gems series and his projects in between to the various flips by Vader, Don, and ATP, the beats were always the fuel. We were really just pushing to show that we were active and actively growing with the sound, as well.
You guys have a very sample-driven sound much like the east coast, a sound we don’t hear much from the underground Florida scene. Do you guys feel a dissonance between you and the rest of the state?
With us being a collective with different styles and personalities we tend to adapt but the dissonance is there for sure. From the county, from the state for the most part. The sound is spreading though and it’ll be something that’s long lasting once it catches on.
GRYFFYTH – That Feel is bringing the Golden Age Renaissance.
Vader – The sound is welcoming.
The artwork for your guy’s releases are very consistent and are kind of a trademark for the label. Who’s behind the artworks and how much discussion goes into the art?
Gryffyth’s paintings inspire most of the artwork, to be real. They get flipped like the beats.
What should we expect from That Feel in 2022?
In 2022, expect consistency. Projects. Singles. Shows, Movies. Goldeneye by Beloveddd will be out soon. Mind Gems series getting continued. Velvet coming from CA$$O.
Plenty beats being made. Raps being recorded. THATFEEL & Friends Vol. 1 coming along. We just got more work coming. Broward is going to feel a shift, TFR is the next independent hip hop powerhouse.
