The battle isnt over yet, as Nipsy would say “The Marathon Continues” when it comes to BLM. If you aren’t sure where to start or how to get involved here are some things we can do to help the cause.
- Spread the word
A single tweet, DM, or post can make a huge impact. Don’t be afraid to support or speak your mind now is the time. The community has great opinions and ideals on what we can do to push our goals towards helping create an equal system for us to co-exist with each other. Your ideas and voice may be the difference to help create a better future.
- Get ready to vote
Now is the time to plan ahead and be prepared on who gets our electoral votes. Each states polling times vary but they all end around October due to elections being held within November. So don’t forget to register and get ready, heres the link to get started
- Protest
This ties in with spreading the word but on a grander scale. Lets bring awareness by taking the attention to the public with our communities and voices. You can make a sign, chant empowering words or remind oppressors whats deserved, even peacefully block roads off but have a plan. Bring water, good walking shoes, snacks, a bag or backpack. Make sure you understand what you’re protesting for, do it peacefully and know your rights.
- Donating to viable BLM charites
The NAACP – Their aim is to make structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. Founded in 1940 under the guidance of Thurgood Marshall in order to fight for justice for African Americans.
My Brother’s Keeper Alliance – Created by former President Obama in 2014, seeks to cultivate communities that empower young men of color. Their funding has proven to help communities of color by reducing youth violence and growing mentorship programs.
Demand for reform
Under the list of being highly important demanding reform is a MAJOR step in correcting our justice system. Police reform is important as it gives police proper guidance and training. It may also evaluate mental and physical conditions that can cause corrupt actions (Police brutality, false incrimination, etc…) and raises the bar and qualifications when becoming an officer. It can also help with the structures of how police departments work as a unit and give better guidelines to this. Prison reform helps correct our institutions and the judicial system within it, which can be a major impact on our communities.
