“I truly believe everyone has had the chance to either love or know ‘that girl’”, said Ra Moody ahead of the release of his latest single, aptly titled “That Girl”. He clearly has that special someone, and he says that he used his prior and current relationship experiences to help bring the track to fruition.
“My past with someone special I had in my life just rushed my memory bank and the melody felt effortless,” said Ra Moody. “My antenna channeled the right emotions for what I was trying to paint about this person but I still wanted it to be [understandable] for someone who has felt or has yet to feel that way.”
The MC says that he sought inspiration for the track from a Chicago legend, but that legend is not a musician.
“I had a very bad flu I was fighting, and I called it my flu song [because I thought] ‘This is how Michael Jordan felt when he played the flu game right?’,” he said. “Jordan scored thirty eight points and I had a demo for ‘That Girl’ in less than thirty eight minutes.”
The track itself is a pleasant listen, with Ra Moody crooning softly about that girl he won’t stop fighting for over a laid back drum break with ambient pads and a smooth bassline to top it all off. “That Girl” was written and recorded by Moody, produced by Kerem Kocak, and executive produced and engineered by Taylor Higgins.
And while he has been releasing his own music for the past three years, Ra Moody doesn’t sound like he is going to stop anytime soon; he is already thinking about his long term success.
“Creating and connecting is on my mind heavy for these next couple of years,” he said. “[I will be] constantly taking every opportunity given to me while I execute calculated plans and risks, but I know the plan always changes and adapting is key to growth and shooting the gaps when obstacles appear.”
If you haven’t already, you need to get in tune with Ra Moody. If you don’t do it soon, you may be left with no choice but to appreciate him when he eventually rises to the top.
