Although he’s an artist I recently became familiar with, North Carolina rapper Phocuz has already proved his pen with his gifted lyrical ability. In today’s hip-hop world where lyricism and wordplay is no longer the center of attention, Phocuz’s music has quickly shown me how valuable both skillset’s still are. Within the first 30 seconds of his recent release, “Enough” he immediately showcases his story-telling and rhyming abilities as he talks about the beauty of his come-up and remaining true to himself. With fire production from his long-time friend and collaborator J-Mac, both parties were able to successfully make a song that mixes the nostalgic instruments and flow from the 2000s with the elements and wordplay of today’s rap music. Having already released their first joint project, “Vibes R Eternal” their chemistry was clear and did nothing but hype us up for the next drop.
