No matter what state our modern music culture is in, one thing I will always appreciate is discovering a true talented vocalist. After my first watch of her music video for “Blood Bind,” I knew that’s exactly what I was discovering with Charlotte-based artist Natalie Carr. Aside from the vocal ability and energy she provides for this song, her lyricism was also something that quickly caught my eye. Throughout the song, Carr portrayed a perfect balance of all these elements as she talked about her new relationships, personal truths, as well as heartbreak and trauma. In her own words, “When I started writing this song about falling so hard for someone that you know it’ll be life changing and you’ll never really be able to undo it, I thought of that exact phrase, blood bind.’ I wrote the hook stating, ‘I treat it like a blood bind, baby there’s no take backs, you know that I care too much; can’t tell if that excites you, or makes you want to run to, someone who don’t care enough.” As if the track couldn’t get any better, bubbling singer Riley provided a perfect feature where both voices intertwined perfectly to provide a strong message through their strong vocal chemistry.
