In lieu of underrated lyricists in the underground, we’re excited to present Kaimana and his project FIENDS. Going through each of the 7 tracks, it’s evident he has a gift of grace. That must be due to being born and half raised in Maui, Hawaii where him and his family did what they could to get by. The one thing that brought everyone together and out of the sad mindset was music, though in Hawaii the culture is used to Reggae, “Jawaiian”, and Ska music which was meant to bring positive vibes.
Eventually, his dad took a job in Reno, Nevada and moved the whole family to a completely different environment. Here is where Kaimana experienced different genres from rock and punk and flowing into rap and RnB. He was eventually hip to the underground, influences from $uicideBoys, Pouya, BONES, and the late XXXtentacion shine subtly through his music and we appreciate the unique approach he took to make it his own. It was imperative he made music HE liked instead of succumbing to what everybody expects to hear.
