Jacob Ezra – 96 Rooftops

With so much unique and innovative sounds in rap today, it’s rare to hear the more classic/lyrical sound hip-hop was used to. Although I do appreciate the creativity and sub-genres rap has birthed, wordplay and lyricism still remains one of my favorite forms of rap and artist/producer Jacob Ezra’s music continues to provide us with that same refreshing sound with his own modern spin. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, he began freestyling at an early age as he grew heavy inspiration from East Coast lyrical hip-hop legends like Nas and Ghostface Killah as well as hip hop and grime artists in the UK like Dizzee Rascal. Although these are generally older artists, he’s found a way to mix the earlier rap sound with key elements and new flows from our current era of rap. This single, “96 ROOFTOPS” which is just his second, covers Ezra’s journey throughout music as well as his mentality in the game. It’s quite clear Ezra’s potential has no ceiling and with his continued consistent music, he will ultimately reach his goals.
