Music, fashion, and film are just some of the arts we use to express our innermost truths about ourselves and our lives. From the darkest depths of rage and depression to the highest feelings of joy and euphoria, there’s universal beauty in the art that expands and explains the full spectrum of human experience. I’ve witnessed a wave of artists from all over independently working hard and extremely creatively to bring their imagination and passion to life. This is how I came across the rage inspired art that is
GOLBY

What started out as doodles on a sketchbook is now an evolving creative vision and outlet of emotion for the artist originally from Miami and moved to New Mexico, named Asher . He himself described best what Golby means to him and the message he wants to portray.
” My purpose is definitely to rid myself of extremely bad habits. I have anger issues and it stems from a lot of things in my life. Losses of friends, trauma and all sorts of things that can haunt a soul. I started this mostly by doodling. Anytime I was extremely upset, I would doodle. Then I started to doodle on clothes when I was angry and people started to enjoy my doodles. The few people who encouraged me to put my art on clothes is really what inspired me into even wanting to make anything. This all started as an outlet and now I’m actually having fun. Who would have known? “

This genuine purpose statement is what art is all about. Asher is a great example of someone working hard to build something they love and believe in. Golby consists of scary-looking, abstract cartoon figures drawn without limit on different pieces of clothes. All the while having a playful and lovable feel as a whole.

Just as any artist would while pursuing mastery of their craft, Asher has been progressively improving and discovering new ways of bringing Golby to life. Currently he is working on screen printing and creating quality products he can sell to re-invest in his craft. He talks more about the process and growth of Golby,
” Well it all started out as doodles, you know, because I was always angry. Always kept a sketchbook with me everywhere I went to keep myself from losing my head. Then I decided to draw some of my “Golby”heads on a ski mask I’ve had for a very long time. Then slowly I got into other things like airbrushing where I could express myself freely on clothes or anything really. I always use to spraypaint Golby heads so it’s nice using an airbrush on clothes. It’s kinda like a transition. From the street to a safe place. And now I got into screen printing which I have to say is the most fun I’ve had. I can be consistent with Golby and I feel like he deserves that. He’s saved my life. I think of him as a hero. My hero. “

While Golby is a relatively new art, I think it is important to document the beginnings of something that can potentially be great. This serves as a reference point of growth and evolution for the artist, supporters, and witnesses alike.
