Elvis Murry is a Florida artist bringing all the elements of The Sunshine State to his songs. His melodies and ear for bright beats represent the warmth of the Miami sun, while his unfiltered approach to songwriting and his gruff delivery of those lyrics act as a reminder of how hungry Florida artists are to prove themselves.
On his latest release, The Star You Are, Murry uses the influences of his home state to create a rugged and original sound all to his own. The stand-out single on the project is the infectious “Camera Shy”, a ballad to the friends that might be left behind on the rise to stardom. The instrumental is led by some beautiful Spanish guitar chords while Murry is able to test the range of his baritone voice, the two elements interact to create a harmony that’s just waiting to take over everyone’s playlist.
The lively undertones of this EP are a testament to Murry’s ambition as a vocalist. The project has a carefree aura surrounding it which is a departure from his previous project, the sinister and more muted Murry Baby, Vol.2: The Campaign. While the songwriting is always consistently clever, Murry’s approach to this recent batch of tracks shows substantial growth in this department. Almost as quick as his wit, The Star You Are runs just over 10 minutes. Even in such a short run time, the listener is introduced to a soulful performer. Murry put together a cohesive yet expansive project and introduced a new side to his creativity that we hope to hear more of in the future.
