Fashion repeats itself and trends are just flashbacks of the past, what’s more “in” now than the 90’s? The fashion world has accepted the Hip Hop community with open arms (regardless of it neglecting said community for decades and ignoring it’s importance to their business) and has been thriving harder after the involvement from very well known Hip Hop artists like Kanye, A$AP Rocky, and Young Thug.
What has swept the community with ease are without a doubt what the millennials are calling “Dad Sneakers”. These ugly , bulky , chunky sneakers are beginning to rise in popularity through the eyes of celebrities and the youth. They’ve came and conquered as Hip Hop’s face of footwear . Ranging from Fila to Prada its obvious that brands understand the demand for the style and are all participating to create their own.
To the average eye a “Dad sneaker” would gain negative reaction due to the public’s, judge first think later policy, but to those who are up to date with the fluctuating style and also the ones that take time to do their research would know that the cons of these sneakers are very few. Limiting them to being very heavy (depending on the brand) and also not as versatile as you would like . Besides from that they’re comfortable, colorful , eye catching footwear that says “Hey world look at my outfit”.
Kanye’s brand “Yeezy” has even released something along the same lines as the popular sneaker which could obviously mean “Guys these are the wave so I hope you can swim”. Gucci , Nike , Prada , Dior , Balenciaga , Fila and many more are up to date on this trend which shows that these sneakers aren’t going anywhere anytime soon .
