Artist of The Week – Lauren Bonham

Lauren Bonham is a 19 year old Texas native who goes to school at Tallahassee Community College. She’s working towards a masters degree in Studio Art. Her love for painting came in a very tender form; she would draw pictures for her family to put up on the fridge as a child. She did not consider it a passion or take it seriously until high school; in the ninth grade she took a basic art class and the art teacher insisted on her potential, even then, it wasn;t until her junior year in high school that she entered a required art competition and made it to the top state level of the art competition. Since then, she uses her spare time to perfect her craft in every which way, and it is noticeable. Lauren has a very unique way of drawing her portraits, you can almost feel the emotion pouring out of the canvas/screen. “I want my art to reach as many people as possible because I know that my art shows feeling(s) that people can relate to. My art is definitely an extension of myself. I say this because I have always been a very reserved person who couldn’t speak my feelings or mind very well. So, art is my way of making people understand and feel what I felt. For as long as I can remember, I have always been into fantasy and surrealistic ideas. That merges itself into every piece of art I create to give itself a whimsical feeling. A feeling like you’re in a different version of reality for even just a split second when looking at my art.”

I urge you all to please take a moment of your time and check out more of her art. She has an online store where she sells prints of her art ( laurenbonhamsstudio.bigcartel.com). Also, check out her Twitter for updates on upcoming shows: @lauren_bonham
