Artist of The Week: Daniela Cardenas the Lighting Architect

What makes a great photographer? One of the main components I look for in photography is lighting. I gravitated towards Daniela’s photography because of it. She uses natural lighting mostly and some editing techniques to further highlight the way she views the people and places she photographs. Daniela Cardenas (pictured above) is a multi-talented photographer born in Venezuela in 1998. Her and her family moved to New York a few years later because of the increasing government issues affecting Venezuela. She grew up in a wonderful community known as Bay Shore, Long Island, from that point on she began to explore her creativity; “It was there were I was able to cultivate my creativity. Over the years I was super into doing my makeup and taking pictures of myself on anything that I could get my hands on. I recall taking and editing pictures on my grandpa’s laptop haha.” After moving to Florida in 2015 during her senior year in high school her true journey with photography began.

For about two years she’s been working hard at mastering her craft with photography. It was heartache which propelled her at first: “It all really started one day when I was sitting in my room, reeling from the heart ache of being cheated on. It was in that moment that I decided to do a little shoot to get my spirits up and give myself a confidence boost. From that day on I began doing it more frequently and it almost started to feel like a form of self care. I began posting my photos and was so amazing ithe response it motivated me to want to create more and more.” It’s amazing that she chose to transmute the pain she was feeling into a positive to boost her self esteem, confidence, and empower herself from one of life’s tough emotional variables. It’s exemplary behavior to follow – reassureance that as creatives it is our biggest gift: create to transmute pain into positives.

Cardenas views her photohraphy as an extension of herself – a way for people to see what her mind’s eye, how she views the world. She is currently working to continue to expand her portfolio and collaborate with other photographers, artists and models. Focused on doing a photo installation sometime this year! If you are a fellow creative lookng to collborate, do not hesitate to reach our to Daniela! I am excited to continue to see her grow as a photographer/creative; I truly believe she has the potential to be one of the greatest.
